Wyrd Sense by Brave Beast

The Fates are on a recruitment drive! Overwhelmed and on the brink of burn out due to a booming world population, the three sisters of fate take you on an insightful, fun and dynamic ride to find their new apprentices. The creation of a new soul to showcase their dealings with birth, life and death causes unforeseen havoc in the mythical headquarters of Fate as Destiny has found his way in…This empowering show full of music, song, dance, myth and a ‘little bit of madness’ deals with the perceived paths of fate and destiny.

The show, suitable for all ages, is created and performed by Brave Beast. This new theatrical collective is formed by Milo Haigh (dancer and choreographer), Deb Morris (physical theatre actor) and Martine Baanvinger (actor, director and writer). Our ‘Wyrd’ live musician is the wonderful pianist Jochen Maurer. The creation of the show is funded by Tasman and Nelson creative communities.

‘Wyrd Sense’ will premiere in May 2025 in Golden Bay in Pohara Hall. The show will  go on the Top of the South Island tour in October 2025.

“Martine’s exceptional portrayal of my great-grandmother, Angelina Moleta, left me in tears so many times yesterday during her one-woman show. What an incredibly moving performance by such a talented actress who gave her everything to screenwrite and then passionately embody and play the character of an Italian pioneering immigrant with all of her joys and sorrows. I am so moved! Red Heavens is touring the country now, so if you see it in a town or city near you, it’s a must-see! Tears are guaranteed.” Nina Hindmarsh

“Martine’s show took me through 90 minutes of profoundly deep emotions – from sorrow to laughter, from anguish to delight. This one is worth checking out. She is going from strength to strength as a performer, and she is working with beautiful material.” Charlotte Squire, writer and musician.

“Martine is so clever to have created such an incredible masterpiece and her ability to portray it all in such a simplistic yet engaging setting was honestly awe inspiring. My Mum said it was “world class” (and she has seen a fair few plays over the years!).” – Sunneva Stocker

“Martines performance makes you feel as if you’ve transported into a really good book.. I was captivated from start to finish, this woman is a true artiste, I’ve never known one person to hold my attention for 90 minutes in such a profound way.”  Claire French, Wonder-Full
